How do we determine if it's better to do upper vs. lower?

It is mainly a matter of preference. Wearing either an upper or lower custom night guard will protect both sets of teeth. Most customers do find an upper custom night guard to be more comfortable than a lower. A lower customer night guard can impinge on the tongue more than a upper night guard.
